ICYMI: NGPF in 2024

This year, we celebrated 10 years as an organization, the 100,000th teacher account, and 500,000 professional development hours completed. Wow! See more highlights from 2024 from advocacy, curriculum, resources, PD, partnerships, and more.

Major Milestones

In May, we celebrated 10 years of NGPF, bringing us into a new era. We're grateful for those of you who have been with us since the early days and we're glad to welcome those of you who recently found this community.

Listen to this podcast episode in which NGPF Co-Founders Tim Ranzetta and Jessica Endlich discussed NGPF's origins and future, featuring a few of Tim's former students from Eastside College Preparatory School, where the inspiration for NGPF began.

In our next decade, we look forward to supporting even more teachers and together achieving Mission 2030, where all ALL students will take a one semester personal finance course before graduating from high school.

We also hit 100k teacher accounts as demand for NGPF resources has mirrored the proliferation in state policies guaranteeing a Personal Finance course. Check out this interview with the 100,000th teacher.

More highlights from 2024:

Advocacy

California became the 26th state to guarantee a Personal Finance course for high school students. As a result of this legislation, 64 percent of high school students in the U.S. will have guaranteed access to a standalone Personal Finance course, up from 53% at the end of 2023. Read how it happened in less than two years. To help implement this new law, three NGPF courses were approved as an official California A-G program.

A report by Tyton Partners found that there is a lifetime positive benefit of approximately $100,000 per student from guaranteeing that a high school student takes a one-semester course in personal finance. See the findings: Investing in Tomorrow: Lifetime Value of Financial Education in High School.

Collaborated with Dr. Carly Urban of Montana State University on the 2024 State of Financial Education report, which highlighted that the momentum for guaranteeing access to a Personal Finance course in high school has reached a tipping point in the U.S.

Partnerships

In partnership with Arizona State University, we added a third course to the graduate credit program and enabled credits earned through the program to count toward a financial education specialization for a Master of Arts in Education.

Worked with The Penn State Behrend Center for Financial Literacy and the CFA Society Pittsburgh to offer the FREE Financial Literacy Progress & Efficacy Assessment to measure student growth this year. Results from the 2023-24 school year show an improvement across all topic areas.

Offered a partnership course with Bridgewater State University enabling FinCamp participants to earn graduate credit by completing additional online coursework. Congratulations to the 64 FinCamp participants who took advantage of this opportunity and earned graduate credit!

Partnered with Dow Jones Smart Money to sponsor 1,000 subscriptions to The Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch for one year for high school educators.

Curriculum

Released the highly requested Gambling & Sports Betting mini-unit.

Did a major update to the Full-Year Course, aligning it to the Trimester and Semester courses and included more Spanish resources in the course.

Revamped the Alternatives to 4-Year Colleges mini-unit as well as Investing resources.

Made the Semester Course available on Canvas and Pear Deck.

Activities & Resources

Included a new My Resources feature in your My NGPF Teacher Account which allows you save your favorite NGPF activities and resources in one place with a simple click of a button.

Added new review materials, including study guides for each Unit Test, plus Jeopardy and quiz games for Final Review.

Simplified the Trimester, Semester, and Full-Year Nearpod decks and updated all mini-unit Nearpods.

Created curriculum crosswalks for three more states for a total of 17 and more in the pipeline.

Professional Development

The NGPF community collectively participated in 500,000—yes, half a million hours—of professional development with us. A huge thank you goes out to the 19,320 dedicated educators who made this milestone possible. That’s more than 57 years of learning!

Introduced the On-Demand Starter Pack, a bundle of 12 NEW professional development modules covering six essential units to set you up for success teaching Personal Finance.

Launched new achievements for NGPF Academy, which allows you to earn digital badges for reaching PD milestones.
