Work Cohorts

How many Americans have the same education, income, work hours, and commute as you do?

Flowing Data’s interactive breaks down the demographics to reveal the answer. Choose between two different visuals (or use both!) to see the information displayed in different ways.

Questions:

  1. How many people have a high school degree, an income of $35K-$49K, have 40-49 weekly hours, and a commute that is 15-29 minutes long?
  2. What happens if you decrease the weekly hours to 30-39 hours?
  3. Which group can you find that has the largest number of people? The smallest?
  4. Which variable(s) tends to impact the number of people the most? Why do you think this is?
  5. What surprised you as explored the data? Why?
  6. How would you rank the four variables in importance to you, from 1 (most important) to 4 (least important)? Explain.
