You may have never seen it...it's that first item under the Community tab on our website:
Once you do find it...you will be glad that you did! NGPF Blog posts provide more than interesting reading. It provides unique and varied material to bring into your classroom directly, or to help you as an educator. In over three years of blogging, we have pulled content from over 500 different sources so we truly are adept at finding those "needles in the haystack." Since the blog represents almost 20% of the pageviews on our website, it is clear that educators are finding value from this small investment of their time.
In terms of use cases, here is how educators tell us they use the blog:
You can receive our TWO posts of the day in your inbox everyday by subscribing on our blog homepage [See Follow Blog via Email]
Here is a brief explanation of our regular postings: when you will see them, and what you can do with them.
Question of the Day [Sunday to Thursday]
These daily posts help you get the conversation started in your classroom the following day. If you are looking for a question on a particular topic, you can find previous questions two ways: by clicking on the topic from the home page, or by going to “Question of the Day” on the Resources drop-down menu, then selecting the topic. We even provide the slides: Question/Answer/Follow-up questions.
Digging Deeper (Monday)
Beth Tallman’s weekly "Digging Deeper" post will involve in-depth research that goes beyond today’s headlines resulting in a thought-provoking piece. From tax policy to stock market volatility to the sharing economy, Beth connects the dots, simplifies complex issues and digs into secondary sources.
What’s New In…..[Thursday]
This post is similar to What I’m Reading This Weekend, but cycles through the topics in the Semester Course once per quarter, so the articles listed will be limited to that subject. This is how we help keep you up-to-date on a topic just before you have to teach it. This list could also be used as a source of topic-specific current events for your students to read and evaluate.
What I’m Reading This Weekend [Friday]
We all get bombarded with news from all directions. We try to funnel that fire hose into a manageable stream by selecting a collection of relevant (and sometime entertaining) articles from the past week. This blog is posted every Friday so you can (hopefully) take some time to catch up on news over the weekend. Some teachers use this list in the classroom, asking their students to choose an article to read and summarize.
Financial Education Explained by Danielle [every 2 weeks]
NGPF team member and millennial, Danielle Bautista, takes us through her life experiences that taught her something about the world of personal finance. These posts are well-researched but remain very relatable for your students, and end with a set of excellent discussion questions to ask your students (and yourself!) Keep an eye out for these.
Potpourri
In total, NGPF posts 2-3 items EVERY day. Other posts range from interesting infographics and interactives, to Podcasts and interviews with folks from the personal finance and education world, guest posts from teachers, recognition of Schools in the News and FinHeros making a difference in their communities.
Enjoy!
