My Classroom: Tying Together Personal Finance and Economics

My Classroom is a short NGPF podcast series devoted to supporting the efforts of teachers. Each week we will speak with different teachers who will share timely tips, resources, and teaching strategies that can be implemented immediately into the classroom.

This week, we welcome Derek D'Angelo and Joey Running. Derek & Joey will discuss strategies to embed personal finance concepts into an economics class, and economics concepts into a personal finance class.

Derek D'Angelo taught AP Economics and Personal Finance for 25 years. He received the NAEE Rising Star Award in 2018 and in the same year received an EIFLE Award for the National Personal Finance Educator of the Year. He is currently the President of the Michigan Council on Economic Education.

Joey Running has nearly 30 years of high school and community college teaching experience and currently teaches economics and personal finance at West Albany High School. She is this year's recipient of the Oregon Economics Teacher of the Year and at the 2019 National Jump$tart Educator Conference received the Ted Beck Effective Educator Award.

Enjoy!
