What is “happiness”? What is “success”? What underlies a person’s life satisfaction and fulfilment? Rand Selig, author and founder of Selig Capital Group, says happiness is our own responsibility; a reality to be captured, a dream to be realized. Listen to the latest NGPF Podcast to hear his take on integrating personal values with financial success.
In his latest book, “Thriving! How to Create a Healthier, Happier, and More Prosperous Life,” Selig explores the critical roles of personal empowerment and character development in achieving financial well-being. He asserts that the future we envision for ourselves rests solely within our current grasp—crafted and attained through conscious effort and deliberate thought.
"We all know that life is full of challenges... to be able to pick yourself back up and keep going takes a certain kind of character, and at the heart of that to me is having grit and resilience," Selig shares in the podcast.
His approach challenges traditional financial wisdom by emphasizing the importance of resilience, grit, and having a growth mindset—elements he believes to be crucial for both personal and financial thriving.
"In my career, I’ve worked with a lot of wealthy people... but were they successful as people? I have to say ‘no’… They didn’t take care of themselves physically, you could just see them… they weren’t sleeping well, they were cranky. Their relationships were a mess," he remarks, highlighting an important difference between financial success and true well-being.
These insights from Rand encourage us to rethink how we define “success” in an attempt to align our financial strategies and values with a more holistic view of life satisfaction and fulfillment.
